Sorisakazuki Cup With White Swirl
Gifu prefecture
A friend to flavor
A flat sake cup featuring an outward curving mouth is known as “sorisakazuki.” It’s not a purely aesthetic choice as this also allows sake to flow smoothly and disperse over the palate, and although this one doesn’t curve outward much, the intent is there. Within the cup lies a subtle white spiral that provides just a touch of mystery waiting to be uncovered sip by sip.

Words from an expert
Shape matters for the gesture, aroma and flavor experience for your sake. A cupped shape will enhance the aroma, a flat ware will instill a bowing gesture, and the lip shape will control how the sake hits your palate.
