Over Ice

Yes, you can serve sake in a rocks glass! Often, the best sake to serve over ice is “genshu” sake. This type of sake is undiluted, as it skips the “warimizu” water dilution step at the end of the brewing process. That means genshu, like Kikusui “Sakamai Kikusui” Genshu, tends to have higher alcohol content and bolder flavors. So even if your ice cubes begin to melt in your glass, your sake will still taste great!
“Umeshu” (plum wine), such as Sawanotsuru “Plum Sake,” can also be served over ice because of its strong ume flavor. Homare “Yuzu” is perfect for mixing cocktails, and Kamikokoro “Momo” can even be blended with ice for a boozy smoothie! Sweet sake, like Kikumasamune “Kinushiro” Nigori, can also be served on the rocks. Have fun exploring your options!
